What is Mindful Painting?
Mindful painting allows the participants to create inspired art from a deeply relaxed state of mind, which invites flow and innovation. The Mindful Painting class begins with an overview of the colors, their metaphysical meaning and how this relates to our bodies and our lives. Then follows a guided meditation with the relaxing sound of the quartz crystal singing bowls, a tool for sound healing, which balances the hemispheres of the brain, induces alpha wave level activity of the brain and provides deep relaxation.
Once everyone is relaxed and has entered their inner sanctuary far away from the concerns and demands of everyday life, we paint!
I provide painting exercises that stimulate creativity, vision and imagination.
How did you get started with Mindful Painting?
I am a meditator since age 15. Mindfulness and a sacred approach to life is essential to me.
I love to share with my students the tools I use every day to live a good, healthy, happy, peaceful and fulfilled life. I have taught Meditation and Guided Imagery in the US since 1998, including at the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. I am the founder and owner of the Brauer Institute for Holistic Medicine.
In 2017, I began contemplating that I reached everything I could reach in the field of Holistic Medicine, including a feature on French TV for ‘Envoyé Spécial,’ which reported how meditation at the workplace helps employees in the US. ‘Envoyé Spécial’ is compared to CBS’s “60 minutes.”
I am also honored to be a recipient of the Immigrant Entrepreneur Award from Global Pittsburgh in recognition of my achievements and enriching the Pittsburgh region with my talent and tenacity since my arrival in 1998.
New Beginnings in 2017
I felt the urge to re-focus and re-launch my art-career in the US. I had studied painting and fine arts at the Avni Art Institute in Tel Aviv – Jaffo, Israel, from 1989 – 1993. My paintings have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Israel, Germany and the US. In 1997 the Department of Culture & Art of the Tel Aviv – Jaffo Municipality in Israel featured my ‘A Passion of Colors’ exhibition.
Throughout the years in America, while I built my Holistic Medicine business I always encouraged art and a creative thinking. Mandala Coloring classes where a staple of my meditation courses, long before they became mainstream. I always painted and created countless meditative commission works.
As a matter of fact the sale of a series of meditative labyrinth paintings financed my modern day pilgrimage, a solo motorcycle road trip across the US to walk sacred circles. With the re-launch I intended to take my art onto a new level and was particularly interested in the Healing Power of Art and Color.
The Mindful Painting class evolved out of this quest and combines my background in the arts and my experience in the field of holistic medicine and the healing arts.
What benefits can Mindful Painting provide?
Mindful Painting provides deep relaxation and stress reduction.
Systematic evaluations of my classes were conducted as I taught for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and at the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Students who completed my courses experienced the following benefits:

And it’s a lot fun. We listen to world music and enjoy dance and movement during the painting exercises.
The class invites students to become “whole.”
What should a student expect at the workshop and what will they come away with?
Every one of us prefers certain colors. We have favorite colors, least favorite colors and some colors with don’t like at all.
There is always a deeper meaning to the color preferences. These preferences in some cases relate to trauma or negative life experiences, which creates a negative imprint on a person’s life and tends to be repeated.
The color preferences may also indicate an imbalance in a person’s energies or emotions.
Following the Mindful Painting class students reported that they were able to release and heal traumatic life experiences and saw themselves in a new way.
Everyone will walk away from this class with a unique, one of a kind, beautiful, colorful artwork.
